VEE CLAMPS back to Product Range

INTRODUCTION - Teconnex Vee Clamps are used to pull together and connect two circular flanges. They are designed and manufactured from both standard and non-standard components to create a range of final products configured to meet specific application requirements. By selecting from the wide choice of design and closure mechanisms, we are confident our Vee Clamps can operate reliably and safely under conditions of stress, vibration, and corrosion and temperature variation.

With numerous benefits over conventional flanged and solid clamp connections, Vee Clamps are used within diverse markets including Aerospace, Automotive, Ducting/Air Conditioning, Materials Handling and many more. To meet the demands of these markets, Teconnex clamps are made from traceable material stocks.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS MATERIALS
  • Fabricated construction - for reduced weight and better appearance.
  • High strength - for superior joint integrity.
  • Compact design - for space saving.
  • Simple and quick to assemble - for reduced costs.
  • 360º positioning - for improved access.
  • Standard - Austenitic stainless steel (for fasteners refer to section entitled Bolting).

  • Specials - To specific application requirements.

SIZES - From 35mm to 1500mm (Larger sizes can be accommodated as specials).
PRESSURE RATINGS
The pressure rating of a Vee Clamp depends upon a number of factors including the diameter of the flange, the flange design, application temperatures, the clamp style, internal pressure, other forces (e.g. bending moments) and materials of construction. Maximum pressures for Vee Clamps at different diameters are as follows:
DIAMETER (inches)
DIAMETER (mm) * MAXIMUM DESIGN PRESSURE (BAR)
4 100 200
10 250 90
20 500 25
30 750 11
* Note -The figures stated above are just a general guide. For design specific ratings contact our technical department.
BOLTING - We offer both straight and cranked (for even further space reduction) bolting in the following standard sizes.
Metric (mm) Imperial (UNF) Recommended
Maximum Torque
6 1/4 10Nm
8 5/16 20Nm
10 3/8 27Nm
12 1/2 42Nm

We also offer this range of bolting in various materials including: Austenitic, Matensitic and plated carbon steels.

A range of nuts is also available to suit numerous application requirements.

VEE CLAMP FLANGE DESIGN
We manufacture over two hundred different Vee clamp segment profiles and prior to finalising your flange design, it is recommended that the application and any specific requirements be discussed in detail with us first.

In this way, we can make sure that maximum and minimum diameter tooling is available, and that the optimum clamp is selected to ensure fit and provide a secure joint.

CLOSURE MECHANISMS - We can offer over fifty different closure mechanisms to cover the spectrum of application requirements and design/manufacturing constraints. The first three closure mechanisms depicted represent the most common core variants: T-Bolted, Quick Coupler and Lever operated. We can also provide clamps with multiple closure mechanisms (e.g. Double Bolted, Bolt and Lever etc.), as well as hinged.

T-Bolt (Style T13)

Quick Coupler (Style Q13)

Toggle Lever (Style L13)

Double Bolted Bi-Directional (Style QT4)

Hinged (Style TH2)

Multiple T-Bolt (Style T44)
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Before fitting clamps ensure flanges and sealing surfaces are clean
2. If fitting a seal, seat it in position and ensure that the flanges assemble freely.
3. Fit the clamp "V" sections over the flange profiles.
Note:- Teconnex do not recommend the use of lubricants between the flanges and the mating surfaces of the clamp profiles. This reduces the friction factor reducing the maximum effective pressure of the joint system.
4. Engage the T Bolt(s) through the trunnions and locate nut(s) onto the T bolt(s).
5. Tighten the nut(s) evenly. Where 2 or more T bolts are used keep the adjustment gaps equal on each side of the clamp.
6. Tap the outside of the clamp with a soft faced hammer to ensure that the "V" sections are seated correctly on the flanges.
7. Tighten the nuts to the appropriate setting torque as per table on page 1, unless stated otherwise on the particular application (marked on the clamp).
8. Repeat tapping and tightening procedure until the recommended torque is achieved on both nuts.
REMOVAL OF CLAMP - Where the clamp is used on a pressure bearing housing make sure the assembly is vented to ensure safety of the operator disassembling the clamp. Similarly ensure the components on either side of the joint are supported when removing the clamp.
1. Undo the nuts from the clamp equally.
2. Tap the clamp is necessary to free the "V" from the flanges and remove the "V" from the flanges.
Where the construction uses Aerotight nuts these and the bolts should be changed after 5 uses. Refer to Teconnex for rework or spares.
Where Staytight nuts are used these should be replaced after 20 uses and bolts should be replaced if worn or damaged.
